Meet the Candidates

David Sink, Jr.
N.C. Senate District 8
David Sink, a native of Lexington NC, served 31 years in the North Carolina Community College System. He was president of two colleges: Roanoke Chowan for five years and Blue Ridge for 20 years. Upon his retirement he received the Long Leaf Pine Award by the Governor of North Carolina.
A Vietnam War era veteran, he has been active in professional and civic organizations at the local, state and national level.

Marcia Morgan
NC House District 19
As a former educator and retired Army Colonel, I’ve spent most of my adult life caring for people in one form or another. Because I cared about the development of children, I became an educator. Because I cared about our country, I joined the Army to serve. And, I still care, so I've made the decision to come out of retirement to serve my community and country, once again.

Tom Simmons
N.C. House District 17
Having lived in Brunswick County for more than forty years, TOM SIMMONS understands how vital commercial fishing families and the tourism industry are to Brunswick County's economy and well-being. His passion for the county goes even deeper than environmental concerns. Simmons believes that improved education with fully funded classrooms and expanded Early Childhood Education programs as the key to future economic growth and a chance for upward mobility for its citizens.

Deb Butler (Incumbent)
N.C. House District 18
Deb was elected by Democrats to finish the term of Susie Hamilton who Gov. Roy Cooper appointed to head the Natural and Cultural Resources Commission.
Deborah was recently named in HuffPost as a 'Rising Progressive Star' recognizing her practice of calling it like it is. Deb is known for her walk about, facebook videos that keep her constituency informed.

Bill Flythe
Board of Education District 3
Dr. William “Bill” Flythe is uniquely qualified to serve on the Board of Education. A doctorate in Chemistry was obtained from Howard University (D.C.). Twenty years were spent in industry as a chemist and Senior Laboratory Supervisor. Fifteen years were spent in the classroom at the high school and college level. If elected, Dr. Flythe will push for increased funding of public education, promote the STEM curriculum, and emphasize the need for safe schools. See website for additional information.

Joanne Levitan
Board of Education District 5
With a BA in Economics and an MBA in Information Systems, Joanne is in the unique position to pursue improvements in funding, monitor spending, and bring our schools into the 21st century.
As a member of the Brunswick County School Board, from her very first day, Joanne will work tirelessly to improve the quality of education and the safety of our students.
North Carolina needs to halt the decline of its public education. Kids only have one opportunity for a strong, supportive education, and they deserve our voices and our votes. Marilyn Priddy
County Commissioner District 2
Marilyn worked in occupational safety and health for more than 40 years. She knows that every dollar spent on preventive measures can save ten or more dollars for corrective measures. Brunswick County is growing rapidly and is facing environmental, education, food security, substance abuse, and infrastructure challenges. Marilyn has proven listening and researching skills and experience in applied science, teamwork, management, and quality control. She will work to find practical solutions, improving the quality of life for all Brunswick County residents.
Marilyn has been married for 46 years and has 2 adult children. She resides in Shallotte.

Charles Warren
Brunswick County Sheriff
Charles spent twenty years working in Law Enforcement in the State of Connecticut. While there, he was honored to work with some of the best officers and supervisors. He acquired valuable knowledge and experience in the best practices of law enforcement to address the needs of the public. As Sheriff we will bring to the department the same high standards of professionalism, leadership, and integrity the he has operated under his entire career.
